A Fantastic Day in Yellowstone
We started the day with a drive through the Teton National Park to Yellowstone. The early morning views of the Tetons are stunning.
Our first stop at Yellowstone was a visit to the mud pots and fumaroles. Yellowstone is known to have an estimated 4,000 fumaroles! The students had a great time reading the temperature of the hot spring water with handheld infrared thermometers. We were all amazed by this section of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Our guides did a great job explaining how these geological features fit into the larger GYE.
After watching Old Faithful, we had a great time hiking a back trail at Yellowstone and making our way up a scramble to a stunning view of the Grand Prismatic Spring. First found in 1871, this is the largest hot spring in the US and third largest in the world. We were all amazed by its magnificent colors.
Mr. L, Mr. M and Mr. K stopped to pose for a pic with me as we hiked along the trail.
We finished our time in Yellowstone with and early evening picnic surrounded by the great splendor of Yellowstone. It was fantastic to hear the students talk about wanting to spending time finding the natural beauty in their own regions of the country when they get back home.

A spectacular day in The Tetons
A few minutes into the Tetons National Forest, a bison sauntered across the road in front of us. An amazing start to the day
The students participated in a multi-year National Parks Service study gathering five types of plant specimens from sites burned during a 2011 forest fire. Here they are taking specimens and marking “witness” Aspen trees for the experiment
As we made our way through the forest, we were all blown away by the beauty and majesty of the Tetons ecosystem
The students divided into three groups for today’s activities. Here’s our group after hiking through The Devil’s Dip section of the Tetons National Forest. An awesome day with a great group!

Day 2 Tetons
We had a very exciting day with the kids.
First we did 2 hrs of horseback riding which took us to a valley overlook where Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid kept their horses during their outlaw days.
After lunch, we did an 8.5 mile run down the Snake River where they took us through some Cat 2 and 3 rapids. We all go soaked and had a blast.
I took a bunch of video with my GoPro camera mounted to my helmet, which I will share once I get them off the memory card.
The kids have been on their best behavior and have been a pleasure to be with. It’s a journey we will all remember fondly.

Ready for Rafting
We’re all getting ready to go white water rafting for the afternoon. The weather is clear, mid 80s, and no predictions of rain.
