Yellowstone, Europe, and more – here we come!
Our teachers will soon take their classroom out into the world for their summer breaks. Stay tuned and watch as they experience the world of Discovery firsthand in amazing adventures around the world!
Day 6 ending
What a great way to spend our last night at the ranch. Around 5:30, we had ropin’ lessons by the cowboys. Woooo doggies – some of our students were good. Others were very good at ropin’ themselves! LOL This was followed by a fantastic cookout with chicken, burgers, potato salad, coleslaw and all the fixins! After this, we got to hear some terrific cowboy songs and sang along with Chris (the main singer), his dad who grew up moving herds of cattle, and Chris’ young son, Caleb who was quite a performer himself. The students had a great time answering questions and singing along. We had a short meeting about feedback from the trip (what they liked and what they would change) and Miriam, our fantastic guide, passed out prizes to everyone. Now the students are all playing hide and seek, tag, and various other games outside in the dark (Yes, parents, they were warned about the vicious javelinas that like to drag off children who stray too far from the ranchhouse!) Soon it will be lights out, and after tomorrow’s breakfast, a trip to the airport, flying home, and this incredible experience will be at an end. However, as many of them stated tonight, they will never forget this trip and hope that it is something that their own children will someday be able to experience.
As for me, I know I will never forget this trip, these wonderful people that I have shared it with, and I am so very thankful for Discovery for setting it up, the patrons who supported our fund raisers, and especially the parents who entrusted me with their children for the week. It has been a fantastic adventure!

A fun day on the ranch!
After a great breakfast, half of us headed out on a nature hike followed by a horse ride and the other half of us did the opposite. On the hike, we saw an amazing abundance of birds that were wonderfully explained by our nature specialist from England! We also saw petro glyphs left by the original Native Americans in the area. The horse ride was wonderful and our guide made it even more fun with all his stories. After a very welcomed lunch, the whole group headed out on kayaks. One of the most amazing sights was watching the bald eagles, one of which swooped down and caught a fish! This afternoon, many of the students are swimming and a few headed to the river to try their luck fishing. Tonight we will experience an old fashioned cowboy cookout complete with stories and singing. Tomorrow morning, it is off to the airport sadly, but we will always remember this fantastic trip! Thank you Discovery! YOU ARE THE BEST!

Anasazi, Desert Museum and the Old West
What a busy day Tuesday was! First we went to the Anasazi Cliff Dwellings. It was cool to imagine ourselves living there 900 years ago. After this, we watch Grand Canyon videos on the bus and played some games while we traveled south. We ate pizza and went to the Desert Museum where we saw a Raptor demonstration and then walked all over the “zoo” seeing a huge variety of animals (and we are finally experiencing warm/hot weather!). After that, we went to the Old Tucson studios where we got a behind the scenes demonstration from some great stuntmen and then watched all over the sets where many of the old westerns were shot including four John Wayne movies and the Three Amigos. It was so fun! Discovery fits so much into every day that it is hard to believe that we have only been here a few days!

Old Tucson Studios
Yesterday, we went to The Old Tucson Studios where we got to see the costumes for the shows. We also got to see a reenactment of Arizona becoming a state. They also showed us a behind the scenes stunts. For instance: we got to see explosions, jumps, gun fights, and fist and leg fights. –Sophie L.
